STRESA – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with France’s Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire today on the sidelines of the G7 Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor Meetings in Stresa, Italy.
During their meeting, Secretary Yellen and Minister Le Maire discussed strategies to unlock immobilized Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine's ongoing resistance and long-term reconstruction efforts. They also explored measures to restrict Russia's access to essential goods for weapon production, including China's role in supplying Russia's military industrial complex.
The officials exchanged views on Chinese industrial practices that lead to overcapacity and their potential impact on manufacturers in the United States, France, and globally. Additionally, Secretary Yellen expressed concerns about Palestinian banks potentially being cut off from their Israeli correspondent banks, highlighting the economic and humanitarian challenges this could pose to regional stability.
