Ramin Toloui, the Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, will be departing his position in June 2024. His tenure has been marked by significant contributions to U.S. foreign policy, particularly emphasizing the intersection of economic security and national security.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken highlighted Toloui's achievements in a press statement released on May 29, 2024. "As Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, Ramin championed a guiding principle of our foreign policy: that economic security is national security," Blinken stated.

Under Toloui's leadership, the Department has focused on strengthening semiconductor supply chains through the CHIPS Act and protecting critical technologies such as artificial intelligence by shaping outbound investment regulations. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in imposing costs on Russia for its illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Toloui also coordinated with international allies and partners to enhance global supply chains, align investment policies, and counter coercion from hostile actors. His efforts extended to deepening partnerships with U.S. businesses and workers and advancing initiatives aimed at improving global food security.

Blinken expressed gratitude for Toloui's service: "As he prepares to depart the Department in June, I thank Ramin for his exceptional service. On behalf of the Department, I wish him well as he returns to Stanford University later this summer."
