The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a new round of funding for 90 airport-related infrastructure grants across 34 states, totaling nearly $187 million. These projects are part of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, which includes $25 billion for airport improvements such as terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, and runway safety enhancements.

“Millions of people fly every day, and making sure passengers can get to and from their destinations safely, and with less stress, has been a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. "The funding we're announcing today will help 91 airports make critical upgrades to improve travel and further modernize our aviation infrastructure.”

“These grants not only invest in the physical infrastructure of our airports but also in strengthening safety and improving efficiency for travelers, and help the economy thrive,” said FAA Associate Administrator for Airports Shannetta R. Griffin.

Airports receiving funding include:

- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Michigan: $61.8 million for the rehabilitation of an on-airport roadway.

- San Diego International Airport in California: $23.5 million for constructing a new terminal building.

- Kodiak Airport in Alaska: $19.7 million for reconstructing Taxiway F pavement.

- Pittsburgh International Airport in Pennsylvania: $20.5 million for terminal building reconstruction.

- Portland International Jetport in Maine: $8.1 million for rehabilitating Taxiway A pavement.

- Tucson International Airport in Arizona: $6.1 million for reconstructing Runway 11R/29L.

- Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Michigan: $4.5 million to expand the snow removal equipment building.

- Bellingham International Airport in Washington: $4.5 million to reconstruct airfield guidance sign fixtures.

- Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama: $4 million for terminal apron crack repair and taxiway reconstruction.

- Aspen-Pitkin County/Sardy Field Airport in Colorado: $3.4 million to rehabilitate taxiway pavement.

- Cedar City Regional Airport in Utah: $2.8 million to expand the terminal by 3,650 square feet.

- Pocatello Regional Airport in Idaho: $2.1 million to reconstruct the northeast apron.

- Harry Reid International Airport in Nevada: $1.8 million to reconstruct baggage handling systems.

- Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Georgia: $1 million to extend Runway 5/23.

This funding is part of one of three aviation grant programs created by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with nearly $9 billion out of a total of $15 billion AIG funding already made available to airports nationwide.

President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law aims to rebuild America’s roads, bridges, public transit, rail systems, ports, and airports while enhancing national competitiveness through substantial investments.
