On May 31, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Director Andrea Gacki and senior FinCEN leaders engaged in two roundtables coordinated with Iowa Representative Zach Nunn’s office in Des Moines, Iowa.

During the first roundtable, which included local law enforcement representatives, Director Gacki emphasized that FinCEN is utilizing a comprehensive set of tools to disrupt transnational criminal organizations involved in opioid trafficking. "As part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Counter-Fentanyl Strike Force," Gacki noted, "FinCEN recently announced that it is pursuing a series of events around the country to bring law enforcement agencies and financial institutions together to share typologies and approaches on combatting illicit fentanyl trafficking."

In a separate outreach event aimed at the business community, Director Gacki discussed beneficial ownership information reporting under the Corporate Transparency Act. This bipartisan law aims to reduce illicit finance by requiring many companies to disclose basic information about their ultimate owners or controllers to the Federal government. Gacki expressed gratitude for Representative Nunn’s invitation to address this critical legislation, stating it will help dismantle opaque corporate structures and provide a fairer competitive environment for American small businesses. "This important law will help untangle opaque corporate structures and level the playing field for American small businesses by allowing law enforcement to pursue criminals that operate illicitly through anonymous shell companies," she said.
