U.S. Rep. Roy: ‘Jordanian national illegally crossed the southern border’ and attempted to breach Quantico

U.S. Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas), along with 12 fellow Congressmen, stated that the American people should be informed about the "scope of the threat" from an incident involving an attempted breach at Marine Corps Base Quantico by two Jordanian nationals, one of whom is on the terror watch list. The group of legislators made this statement to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a letter dated May 28.

"A May 23, 2024, report revealed that one of the Jordanian nationals illegally crossed the southern border in April 2024 and was released into the interior with a notice to appear, while the other national overstayed his F-1 student visa," said Roy, U.S. Rep from Texas. "A brazen attempt to infiltrate a military installation by foreign nationals from a terror-prone region rightly raises concerns as to whether this constituted a possible terrorist attack."

According to Fox News, on May 3, two men approached MCB Quantico in a truck, claiming to be making a delivery. When officers attempted to detain them, they moved the truck forward and attempted to drive into the base. The men were then turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for questioning.

One of the men was on the terrorist watch list, and the other had entered illegally through the southern border, according to a letter sent by the Homeland Security Committee.

The government has neglected to designate the breach at Quantico as a terrorist action, according to a May 28 press release from Rep. Chip Roy.

Roy and his colleagues requested that DHS and FBI release information regarding the incident. "The American people deserve to know the scope of the threat posed by potential terror suspects, and the extent to which the open border policies of this administration are facilitating it," they said in their letter.

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy has represented Texas’ 21st District since 2019, according to his website. He sits on the House Judiciary, Rules and Budget Committees and serves as the Policy Chair of the House Freedom Caucus.
