Small business owners meet Congress over tax and reporting requirements

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is hosting its annual Fly-In on Capitol Hill this week, with events scheduled for June 11-12. Small business owners from across the country have traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in advocacy programs and meet with lawmakers to discuss critical issues impacting their operations.

"The small business economy continues to face significant challenges and the policies coming out of Washington aren’t making it any better," said NFIB President Brad Close. "During the week, small business owners will have the opportunity to speak with lawmakers directly about the importance of the Small Business Deduction and more issues that impact their everyday business operations. We look forward to connecting with Members of Congress and sharing Main Street stories."

Close has also authored an op-ed in the Washington Times this week, outlining the primary concerns small business owners will bring to Congress.

The key issues being advocated include:

1. The passage of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which aims to prevent a substantial tax increase on small businesses by making the Small Business Deduction permanent before its expiration in 2025.

2. The passage of the Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act, intended to repeal the Corporate Transparency Act and eliminate burdensome beneficial ownership reporting requirements.
