CCIA responds to consultation on EU Commission white paper on digital infrastructure

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) has submitted its response to the public consultation on the European Commission’s white paper, "How to master Europe’s digital infrastructure needs."

In its comments, CCIA Europe reaffirms its support for the EU’s 2030 digital targets while expressing concerns about certain proposals in the white paper. The association outlines recommendations for achieving Europe's digital ambitions more positively.

CCIA Europe believes that the Commission should abandon some problematic ideas, such as introducing network usage fees indirectly or extending telecom regulatory frameworks to other sectors like cloud providers. According to the association, these policies could harm EU businesses and consumers and jeopardize Europe's ability to meet its 2030 targets.

Instead, CCIA Europe advocates for a technology-neutral approach that focuses on consumer interests and demands. It also calls for fostering competition in the EU telecoms and digital sector to achieve connectivity infrastructure goals by 2030.
