Mario Nawfal: 'Cartels are diversifying beyond narcotics, infiltrating sectors like internet services and food industries'

Internet personality and entrepreneur Mario Nawfal stated that Mexican cartels are expanding their operations to include "controlling internet access" and using extortion in the food industry in Mexico. Nawfal made the statement on X on July 8.

"The Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation Mexican drug cartels are diversifying beyond narcotics, infiltrating sectors like internet services and food industries," said Nawfal, Founder. "Their reach into daily life is expanding, from extorting avocado growers to controlling internet access under the threat of death. Fuel theft and extortion in tortilla and chicken businesses reveal their broadening influence, posing increased challenges for law enforcement."

According to News Nation, the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels' influence has extended to internet usage in Mexican homes. These cartels use death threats to coerce civilians into paying for internet access. Additionally, they generate profit through stealing fuel from a state-owned company.

The Guardian reported that cartels have been able to garner a profit of $150,000 per month by forcing citizens to pay for internet usage.

News Nation also reports that cartels commit extortion to generate finances through the food industry. The prices of tortillas, avocados, and poultry have all been driven up in Mexico. Fifteen percent of tortilla factories are forced to pay cartels various sums of money every week to continue operation.

Nawfal is the host of The Roundtable Show and founder of the Athena Group of Companies, according to his website.
