Public interest groups have raised concerns that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) could be taking further steps to address data privacy issues.
“Each of the three major carriers have experienced at least one breach in the last 5 years and it’s unclear whether anything is being done to address that, apart from breach notification requirements — which is not the same thing as implementing measures to prevent the breach in the first place,” said Chris Frascella, counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
The FCC announced on Friday that it was investigating a significant breach of AT&T customer call records.
The task force “suggests a move in the right direction,” Frascella stated. However, he added, “the FCC seems to be responding more quickly to AI-related issues than to data privacy issues.”
