A new report from the US House Judiciary Committee found that under the Biden-Harris Administration’s open borders policies, at least 99 undocumented migrants on the terror watch list have been released from custody. The announcement came in an August 5 news release.
Titled "Terror At Our Door: How The Biden-Harris Administration’s Open Borders Policies Undermine National Security and Endanger Americans," the report invokes the September 11 attacks, stating that border security was not seen as a national security matter, which led to the attacks. According to the report, "between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, Border Patrol at the southwest border encountered aliens on the terror watchlist from 36 different countries, including places with an active terrorist presence, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Yemen." It also notes that there are at least 34 individuals in custody of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) who have not been deported from the US.
During the current fiscal year, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have encountered "tens of thousands of illegal aliens nationwide from countries that could present national security risks," including "2,134 Afghan nationals, 33,347 Chinese nationals, 541 Iranian nationals, 520 Syrian nationals," and "3,104 Uzbek nationals."
The report states that when individuals in DHS custody have gone before immigration judges, at least "27 undocumented migrants on the terror watch list crossed the southwestern border between ports of entry between 2021 and 2023." Judges also granted asylum to at least four on the watch list or terminated cases for at least two known or suspected terrorists.
The House Judiciary Committee is a bipartisan committee with US Representative Jim Jordan acting as chairman and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) as the ranking member in the current Congress. The committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues related to the administration of justice. This includes oversight of antitrust laws and administrative law subcommittees. It also has authority to impeach federal officials and consider articles of impeachment. Additionally, it conducts oversight of both the executive branch and federal judiciary.
