The Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State, Concordia, and the University of Virginia Darden School’s Institute for Business in Society have announced the five finalists for the 2024 P3 Impact Award. Now in its 11th year, the P3 Impact Award recognizes exemplary public-private partnerships (P3s) that provide solutions to pressing global issues such as improving access to education, ecological sustainability, women’s economic empowerment, and humanitarian assistance. Special Representative for Global Partnerships Dorothy McAuliffe will announce the P3 Impact winner on Tuesday, September 23, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. at the 2024 Concordia Annual Summit in New York City.

An independent and diverse judging committee selected the following five finalists for the 2024 P3 Impact Award based on their operational structure, measurable social-inclusion impact, financial sustainability, innovation, and scalability:

Youth Empowered – Romania

Youth Empowered supports Romanian teenagers and young adults (aged 16 to 25 years old) to complete their education and secure jobs. The partnership bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world employment through collaboration with The Social Incubator, Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company’s ecosystem, and institutional support from Romania’s educational and labor authorities. Since 2017, it has empowered over 41,000 young Romanians.

Plastic with Purpose: Creating a Sustainable Circular Economy for Plastic Waste in Vietnam – Vietnam

Plastic with Purpose (PwP) is a public-private partnership involving iDE, Oceanworks, and ReForm Plastics aimed at developing profitable and ecologically sustainable business models in Da Nang, Vietnam. It focuses on improving the lives of small-scale waste-workers by enhancing plastic waste collection and recycling processes through outcome-based financing.

Take the Lead – Global

Take The Lead is an initiative developed with Mexoxo (Greece), eCornell University, L’Oréal Fund for Women, and over thirty-six local stakeholders. It aims to democratize education for 300,000 underserved women across 155 countries with plans to extend educational access to five million women globally.

Public-Private Partnership to Improve Professional Education in Ukraine (EdUP) – Ukraine

Swisscontact collaborates with various partners including Geberit Trading LLC and Sika Ukraine LLC under EdUP to transform vocational education in Ukraine. Supported by Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science among others, EdUP aims to restore VET schools' infrastructure affected by war while establishing a dual education model crucial for reconstruction efforts.

The Challenge Initiative – Africa, Asia

The Challenge Initiative (TCI) addresses rapid urbanization's impact on family planning services across Africa and Asia. Led by Johns Hopkins’ William H. Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health with support from Bayer AG and the Gates Foundation among others; TCI has engaged over 200 city governments across 13 countries since its launch in 2016.
