Susan Rice, recognized for her influential roles in both domestic and foreign policy, will be featured in a fireside chat hosted by the John L. Thornton China Center at Brookings on Thursday, September 5. The event will see Rice in conversation with China Center Director and Senior Fellow Ryan Hass.
Rice's extensive career includes serving as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and national security advisor during the Obama administration, where she prioritized issues such as human rights, poverty, climate change, LGBTQIA+ and women’s rights, public health, and nuclear non-proliferation. In the Biden administration, she held the position of director of the Domestic Policy Council, addressing healthcare, policing, gun safety, racial equity, and infrastructure.
The event is part of the inaugural Jeffrey A. Bader Memorial Lecture series at Brookings. This annual lecture series aims to bring renowned speakers to foster candid conversations among participants, inform policy debates, and educate the public. Jeffrey A. Bader was a respected member of the Brookings community from 2005 until his passing in 2023. His career spanned multiple administrations across both parties with roles in the U.S. Department of State, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and National Security Council.
The discussion will be livestreamed with an audience Q&A session following the moderated conversation. Online viewers can submit questions via email.
