After New York City Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on federal bribery and other charges, Patrick Gaspard, president of the Center for American Progress, issued a statement.
"After a yearslong investigation, the federal indictment unsealed today against Mayor Adams is damning. The charges of campaign finance, bribery, and conspiracy represent not just a disregard for the law, but also a break of the public trust," Gaspard stated. "While Mayor Adams is entitled to a presumption of innocence while the legal process plays out, he also has a responsibility to the people of New York City to give clear answers to the damning allegations and not use the plight of vulnerable migrant communities as a shield from responsibility."
Gaspard emphasized that "our nation’s largest, most diverse, and vibrant city—the financial hub of our country—needs and deserves leadership it can confidently rely on."
