On September 30, Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Dafna Rand will travel to Warsaw, Poland, to participate in the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference (WHDC) and the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF). She will meet with senior officials, civil society members, and human rights defenders to highlight the importance of promoting and protecting human rights in U.S. foreign policy.

Assistant Secretary Rand is scheduled to deliver opening remarks at the WHDC hosted by the Chairmanship-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In her remarks, she will emphasize that respect for individual dignity and rights within states is crucial for security among states. Additionally, she will present the U.S. plenary statement on international human rights and international humanitarian law. This statement will underscore the United States’ commitment to accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other atrocities, including those committed by Russian forces and officials during Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

During her time in Warsaw, Assistant Secretary Rand will also participate in a panel discussion at the WSF. The discussion will focus on the United States' commitment to principled leadership globally. She will stress continued U.S. leadership along with critical partnerships that advance shared values and interests. These efforts aim to counter rising authoritarianism and promote a global future that is open, prosperous, and secure.
