Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Washington on September 30, 2024. The meeting aimed to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to strengthening its relationship with Norway.

According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Norway's support to Ukraine, which includes the donation of six F-16 fighter jets and over $7 billion in long-term security and humanitarian assistance.

The discussion also covered concerns about the People's Republic of China's (PRC) support for the Russian defense industrial base. Additionally, both leaders addressed the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for continued diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. This includes achieving a ceasefire in Gaza that ensures the release of all hostages.

Furthermore, Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Eide signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on critical mineral supply chains while safeguarding labor and environmental standards globally.
