Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su has released a statement regarding the September 2024 Employment Situation report. The report indicates that the U.S. economy added 254,000 jobs in September, with the unemployment rate decreasing to 4.1 percent. According to Su, "With an average of 186,000 jobs added over the past three months, it’s clear that people who need a job are finding a job."
The report highlights growth in various sectors including Private Education & Health Services (+81,000), Leisure & Hospitality (+78,000), Government (+31,000), and Construction (+25,000). Additionally, wages have increased by 4.0 percent over the past year.
Su noted that since President Biden and Vice President Harris assumed office in January 2021, more than 16.2 million jobs have been created across different industries such as manufacturing and construction.
Reflecting on changes since four years ago when many activities were restricted due to COVID-19 measures, Su stated: "Today...our economy is on strong footing with record employment gains." She attributed these improvements to efforts by the Biden-Harris administration aimed at reducing unemployment and inflation while fostering an inclusive economy.
