Smartsheet has announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch a new connector at its annual ENGAGE customer conference. This connector aims to synchronize data from Smartsheet into Amazon Q Business, a generative AI-powered assistant designed to facilitate decision-making by providing answers, summaries, and content generation based on enterprise data.
Ben Canning, SVP of product experiences at Smartsheet, explained the company's strategy: “The Smartsheet connector furthers our strategy to securely integrate Smartsheet with industry-leading enterprise AI tools so customers can seamlessly work across their business applications.” This integration seeks to address the challenge of data silos within organizations. A Salesforce report in 2024 highlighted that only about 28% of business applications are connected, indicating widespread issues with isolated data.
The new connector allows users to combine their Smartsheet data with other platforms like Salesforce and Slack via Amazon Q Business. This integration will enable over 13 million Smartsheet users worldwide to access their work management data more efficiently through AWS’s AI assistant. The collaboration between Smartsheet and AWS is expected to optimize decision-making processes and improve productivity.
Dilip Kumar, vice president of Amazon Q Business at AWS, emphasized the potential impact: “Generative AI presents companies of all kinds with the opportunity to revolutionize how work gets done inside their organizations." He further noted that this development helps bridge gaps between structured and unstructured data within enterprises.
Dion Hinchcliffe from The Futurum Group added insight into the significance of generative AI in modern enterprises: “This transition offers an opportunity to redefine the boundaries of what is possible in data management and utilization.”
The Smartsheet connector is currently available in public preview for Amazon Q Business customers. Both companies are committed to advancing AI capabilities within enterprise settings. As part of this effort, Smartsheet has made its full suite of AI tools accessible until December for all its customers.
