Filmmaking is poised to explore new possibilities at LA Tech Week, as FBRC.AI and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have revealed the top eight finalists in the Culver Cup, a pioneering GenAI Film Competition. This event merges advanced AI tools with the creative talents of emerging filmmakers.
The eight selected films were chosen from 50 projects developed over three weeks. These films will be showcased and compete in a bracket-style contest during an exclusive red carpet event on October 14, 2024, at the historic Culver Theater, marking the beginning of LA Tech Week.
The Culver Cup Elite Eight finalists are: Joey Daoud, Maddie Hong, Borys Kondratenko, Metapuppet, Paola Rocchetti, Krystal Trixx, Aristomenis Tsirbas, and Matthew Wenhardt.
Todd Terrazas, Co-Founder of FBRC.ai, stated: “By bringing in a 3D component to the competition, these Elite Eight films will showcase what production-ready output with AI looks like and how AI is empowering filmmakers to create new kinds of films. The Culver Cup is not just about winning; it's about building the next generation of leaders in AI and film.”
Jon Jones from AWS commented: "Filmmakers' ingenuity has often led to new, groundbreaking technologies to produce enthralling stories that delight and inspire us. Now, generative AI is making it easier than ever for them to bring their visions to life."
The event will feature exclusive screenings of the top eight films with audience participation in judging. Prizes include project credits from AWS and mentorship from industry professionals.
Participants utilized shared 3D assets from Global Objects and creative guidance by director David Slade. They had access to tools like Luma’s Dream Machine for video creation and Playbook3D for rendering 3D scenes.
Throughout this process, competitors crafted unique workflows showcasing future AI utilization potential. The top two filmmakers will present their workflows at the event.
