Today, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a conversation with Nabih Berri, the Lebanese Speaker of Parliament. The discussion focused on the United States' dedication to finding a lasting diplomatic solution to the conflict along the Blue Line, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
Secretary Blinken emphasized the importance of state institutions in post-conflict Lebanon and stressed the necessity for filling the presidential vacancy through democratic processes that reflect the aspirations of the Lebanese people for stability, prosperity, and independence. He expressed his sincere condolences for civilian casualties and suffering, including the significant number of internally displaced persons.
Furthermore, Secretary Blinken highlighted the U.S. commitment to addressing Lebanon's humanitarian needs, which is demonstrated by nearly $157 million in humanitarian aid recently announced for those affected by the ongoing crisis.
