On September 25, 2024, several U.S. Representatives called for the Biden-Harris Administration to release an unclassified version of its Ukraine strategy. The demand was made by Tom Cole (R-OK), Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee; Ken Calvert (R-CA), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense; Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs; Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee; Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; and Mike Turner (R-OH), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
In a joint statement, they said: “The Biden-Harris Administration must immediately release an unclassified version of its strategy for how U.S. and allied assistance will hasten a Ukrainian victory in Russia’s war of aggression. After submitting the strategy months after the congressionally-mandated deadline, the decision to fully classify it is unacceptable and defies critical provisions that House Republicans fought to enact as part of the National Security Supplemental and the FY24 spending bills."
They emphasized that given "the vital U.S. interests at stake in Ukraine defeating Putin’s invading forces," it is important for Congress and American citizens to understand how their tax dollars are being utilized.
