TechNet, a national network of innovation economy leaders, has released the results of a new poll conducted in collaboration with Morning Consult. The study focused on the evolving app development landscape and the concerns developers have about potential changes that could impact their work.
The survey targeted software developers across the nation to gather insights into their perspectives on the current state of web and app development. Conducted from October 4 to 7, 2024, the survey included responses from 310 developers. The data was collected online and adjusted for age and gender representation. The margin of error for the findings is plus or minus six percentage points.
The results indicate that while a significant majority of developers are content with their roles—92% expressing job satisfaction—there are prevalent concerns about proposed changes to the app ecosystem. Specifically, 94% of respondents appreciate how the current system functions.
However, there is apprehension regarding potential fragmentation within the ecosystem. A substantial 83% fear that such changes could hinder innovation, lower app quality, or lead to security issues. Additionally, 89% believe that these shifts could complicate and increase costs associated with developing new applications.
TechNet's poll sheds light on developer sentiments as they navigate an industry marked by rapid change and uncertainty.
