The U.S. Department of State has announced the arrival of the first Fulbright/Kennedy Center Fellows, Adriana Jaramillo from Colombia and Eder Zanetti from Brazil. This initiative is part of a collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, aiming to promote music diplomacy, arts, and public health.
The Fulbright/Kennedy Center Fellowship for Performing Arts and Science is a segment of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. It offers international scholars opportunities to work with Kennedy Center artists, staff, and educators. The fellowship encourages research and projects that explore connections between performing arts, environment, health, and wellbeing.
Adriana Jaramillo is recognized as a clinical psychologist and education specialist who has utilized arts in education to bridge societal divides. Her research under this fellowship will focus on creating guidance for Colombia’s Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra regarding music programs targeted at school-age children.
Eder Zanetti is known as a forest scientist, environmental journalist, and media host in Brazil. His project at the Kennedy Center will explore methods to incorporate various art forms such as music, dance, comedy, theater, cinema, and hip-hop into educational efforts about environmental sustainability.
This fellowship supports the U.S. Department of State’s Global Music Diplomacy Initiative and aligns with the Kennedy Center's expanded focus on Arts and Wellbeing as well as Arts and the Environment. An upcoming international festival titled Earth to Space highlights these themes further.
