U.S. officials head to Azerbaijan for COP 29

Senior officials from the Biden-Harris Administration will participate in the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22. The U.S. delegation aims to showcase American leadership in addressing climate change and to strive for strong negotiated outcomes at the conference.

John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy, will lead the delegation. Other notable members include Thomas Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture; Jennifer M. Granholm, Secretary of Energy; Ali Zaidi, Assistant to the President and White House National Climate Advisor; Brenda Mallory, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality; David Turk, Deputy Secretary of Energy; Laura Daniel-Davis, Acting Deputy Secretary of the Interior; Jane Nishida, Acting Deputy Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; Rick Spinrad, Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere & Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and Bonnie Jenkins, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.

The delegation will also consist of other U.S. government officials who focus on how climate change intersects with issues such as armed conflict, finance, food security, gender equality, global health, trade and investment, youth matters, among others.
