ITIF urges Trump administration to prioritize digital economy post-re-election

Following the re-election of former President Trump in 2024, Daniel Castro, Vice President of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), released a statement highlighting the economic priorities for the new administration. The ITIF is recognized as a leading think tank focused on science and technology policy.

Castro emphasized that voters have prioritized the economy, with a significant challenge being to reverse the United States' loss of techno-economic power to China. He stated, "One of the United States' biggest challenges is reversing its loss of techno-economic power to China, making the restoration of US leadership in advanced industries essential for the next president."

He further stressed the importance of digital innovation in driving economic growth and productivity. "Given the central role of digital innovation in the US economy, it is incumbent upon President-elect Trump's administration to develop an economic agenda that accelerates digital transformation across public and private sectors," Castro noted.

To support this transformation, Castro recommended focusing on creating a regulatory environment conducive to innovation. This includes supporting AI adoption and working with Congress on a regulatory framework for consumer data protection. Additionally, he suggested enacting legislation to prevent states from implementing disparate digital policies that could disrupt interstate commerce.

In June, ITIF published a techno-economic agenda for the incoming administration. This report outlines 82 recommendations across 13 key policy areas such as budget policy, tax policy, trade expansion and enforcement, antitrust policy, and digital policy.
