Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced a series of nominations for appointments within the U.S. Marine Corps today. These nominations involve both promotions and new assignments for several officers.

Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Robert C. Fulford has been nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and is set to become the deputy commander of the U.S. European Command. Fulford currently commands the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California.

Among those nominated for promotion to major general are Brigadier Generals Adam L. Chalkley, Joseph R. Clearfield, Mark H. Clingan, Mark A. Cunningham, Kyle B. Ellison, Walker M. Field, Anthony M. Henderson, Valerie A. Jackson, Matthew T. Mowery, Andrew M. Niebel, Farrell J. Sullivan, and Jason G. Woodworth.

Brigadier General Chalkley is serving as inspector general of the Marine Corps in Arlington, Virginia; Brigadier General Clearfield as senior military assistant to the deputy secretary of defense at the Pentagon; Brigadier General Clingan as commanding general at Twentynine Palms, California; Brigadier General Cunningham as commanding general in New Orleans; Brigadier General Ellison as deputy director for Current and Integrated Operations at the Pentagon; Brigadier General Field as deputy director for Operations at the Pentagon; Brigadier General Henderson as commanding general in Quantico; Brigadier General Jackson as commanding general in New Orleans; Brigadier General Mowery as deputy director for Requirements and Capability Development at the Pentagon; Brigadier General Niebel as commanding general at Camp Pendleton; Brigadier General Sullivan as director at Quantico; and Brigadier General Woodworth holding dual roles in Washington D.C.

Additionally, Cols Joseph A. Katz and David K. Winnacker have been nominated for promotion to brigadier general positions.
