The Heritage Foundation has expressed its condolences following the passing of renowned appellate lawyer Ted Olson. John Malcolm, vice president for the foundation's Institute for Constitutional Government, issued a statement reflecting on Olson's impactful career and legacy.

"We at Heritage are saddened by the loss of Ted Olson. Ted was one of the most preeminent appellate lawyers and Supreme Court advocates of his generation, arguing many significant legal cases before the High Court," said Malcolm.

Olson served as lead counsel for President George W. Bush during the contentious 2000 election period, notably in the Bush v. Gore case. He was also a founding member of The Federalist Society. His career included roles such as Assistant Attorney General from 1981 to 1984 and Solicitor General of the United States from 2001 to 2004.

Malcolm recalled Olson's resilience during September 11, 2001, when he received calls from his wife Barbara moments before her flight crashed into the Pentagon. "Nobody who was around then will forget the fortitude that Ted exhibited that day," Malcolm stated.

"Ted Olson led a consequential life. May he rest in peace."
