The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the commencement of National Apprenticeship Week, an annual event aimed at highlighting how Registered Apprenticeship enhances career opportunities and broadens access to well-paying jobs across various industries in the United States.
Celebrating its 10th year, this year's National Apprenticeship Week will feature over 1,300 events nationwide and more than 800 proclamations under the theme "Celebrating 10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation." These activities aim to emphasize Registered Apprenticeship's role in uniting key stakeholders at all levels to address workforce needs and provide job seekers with pathways into high-growth sectors such as infrastructure, cybersecurity, healthcare, construction, and education.
Throughout the week from November 17-23, partners within the Registered Apprenticeship system will host events showcasing partnerships and collaborations across the country. Participants will include employers, apprentices and graduates, community organizations, education providers, federal partners, industry associations, labor unions, state apprenticeship agencies, contractors, Apprenticeship Ambassadors, and the department’s Office of Apprenticeship.
Since its inception in 2015, National Apprenticeship Week has seen participation from over 1.4 million individuals in more than 10,000 events with support from over 1,800 proclamations for Registered Apprenticeship.
“During this milestone 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week," stated Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su. "I call on our diverse partners throughout the National Apprenticeship System to celebrate the profound ways that Registered Apprenticeship has transformed lives, empowered workers and strengthened communities. Now is the time for all of us to build partnerships with employers, promote the benefits of apprenticeship, and increase awareness of Registered Apprenticeship opportunities to all communities including underrepresented groups to create pathways to good jobs for all.”
As part of Youth and Young Adult Apprenticeship Day during National Apprenticeship Week, youth Apprentice Trailblazers will be acknowledged at the White House for their efforts in expanding and diversifying Registered Apprenticeships. These Trailblazers will also share their experiences on social media using #TrailblazerTakeover.
On November 20th a virtual event will be held by the department to launch the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Registered Apprenticeship Collaborative. This initiative aims to foster collaboration among leaders in higher education and business alongside community and state apprenticeship agencies to develop new career pathways within HBCUs.
