New York will soon become the first city in the United States to implement a congestion pricing toll. Initially paused by Governor Hochul in June due to opposition from businesses, business organizations including NFIB, and commuters, the program is now set to move forward.
The revised plan includes a $9 toll for passenger vehicles, a $14.40 toll for small trucks and charter buses, and a $21.60 toll for larger trucks and tourist buses. These charges will apply to vehicles traveling in Manhattan below 60th Street between 5 AM and 9 PM on weekdays and from 9 AM to 9 PM on weekends.
The purpose of this initiative is to generate funds for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)'s capital plan while also aiming to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution in central Manhattan.
Congestion pricing is scheduled to commence on January 5, 2025. For more information, please visit: https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/putting-commuters-first-keeping-costs-down-governor-hochul-unveils-plans-future-transit-and
