Each year on November 20, the world observes Transgender Day of Remembrance. This day is dedicated to honoring transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals who have been victims of violence, discrimination, and abuse. These acts occur simply because these individuals choose to live authentically.
Transgender people are present in every country, culture, and faith tradition. The United States acknowledges this day to affirm the dignity and human rights of transgender persons globally.
Transgender individuals often encounter discrimination in areas such as education, housing, employment, and healthcare. They are subjected to rhetoric that threatens them and their loved ones and face disproportionately high levels of homicide and assault. Despite these challenges, they continue to confront the world with courage daily.
"It is our collective responsibility to ensure transgender persons can live full lives without fear of harm," states a representative. The United States remains committed to advocating for a world that accepts and respects transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals.
