Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels. The meeting took place ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting. According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the discussions focused on key Alliance priorities, including measures to assist Ukraine in defending itself against Russia's aggression and enhancing NATO partnerships in regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, and the Sahel.
During the talks, Secretary Blinken and Secretary General Rutte expressed their approval of King Abdullah II of Jordan participating for the first time at a Foreign Ministers Meeting. This was seen as an important step toward increasing cooperation with NATO’s Southern partners.
Both leaders emphasized the necessity for Allies to work together to ensure security and stability throughout the Euro-Atlantic region. This collaboration is considered crucial as preparations continue for the Hague Summit scheduled for June.
