At the AWS re:Invent event, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Grab announced a significant partnership. Grab has chosen AWS as its preferred cloud provider to support its technology-driven strategy for growth across various services, including mobility, deliveries, and financial services.

Grab relies on AWS to serve 41.9 million monthly users and over 13 million partners. The platform processes numerous transactions per second, powered by AWS's robust cloud infrastructure across eight Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Suthen Thomas Paradatheth, CTO of Grab stated: "At Grab, our strategy for growth is anchored on constant innovation to outserve the needs of our users and partners." He emphasized the importance of rapid experimentation with security and stability.

Grab uses AWS Cloud to manage operations in mobility, deliveries, financial services sectors, and digibanks in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. By adopting AWS’s solutions like AWS Clean Rooms and Graviton2 processors for backend services migration, Grab has improved agility while reducing costs.

In response to increased demand for its services—22% more on-demand transactions in Q3 2024—Grab employs Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) along with Amazon DynamoDB. This ensures high availability and scalability during peak times while allowing resource adjustment during off-peak periods.

The company continues expanding features such as Advance Booking and Group Order region-wide with support from AWS's scalable infrastructure. This includes launching digital banks in Singapore and Indonesia rapidly within 16 months.

As a pioneer in AI adoption in Southeast Asia, Grab utilizes Catwalk—its machine learning model platform built on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS)—to deploy over 1,000 AI models. These enhance user experiences through personalized recommendations among other functions. The company also uses AWS Inferentia chips for AI-powered services like map enhancements.

AWS supports Grab’s mission to drive innovation across Southeast Asia by providing operational performance capabilities that optimize price performance according to Jeff Johnson from ASEAN at AWS.
