Blinken receives Swedish royal honor for efforts in NATO accession

Foreign Minister Stenergard expressed gratitude towards Secretary Blinken, stating, "The Royal Order of the Polar Star was instituted in 1748 and is intended to recognize personal endeavors for Sweden and Swedish interests." Stenergard also commended Blinken for his support of Ukraine and transatlantic unity during challenging times. She assured that Sweden would meet expectations as a trusted partner within NATO.

He emphasized the longstanding friendship between the United States and Sweden, noting their new status as Allies provides confidence amid global challenges. "We couldn’t have a better friend, a better partner, a better Ally in the world than Sweden," he stated.

In acknowledging his part in Sweden’s NATO accession, he conveyed pride on behalf of President Biden and thanked King Carl XVI Gustaf for this honor.
