The United States has announced a $4 billion Foreign Military Financing (FMF) loan guarantee to Poland, increasing the total U.S. loan support to the country to over $11 billion in the past two years.
Poland plays a crucial role as a part of NATO's Eastern Flank and is considered a strategic partner by the United States. Since 2023, Poland has initiated a significant military modernization program, enhancing its defense capabilities with major acquisitions of advanced U.S. defense systems. These include Apache helicopters, the Airspace and Surface Radar Reconnaissance System, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and Patriot air and missile defense systems.
FMF loans and guarantees are tools used by the U.S. in security cooperation with trusted allies. The loans aim to accelerate Poland's military modernization, strengthening various defense capabilities and supporting NATO's deterrence along its Eastern Flank.
The announcement reflects "the United States’ steadfast commitment to Poland’s security and to the continued strengthening of NATO." The collaboration between the United States and Poland focuses on ensuring regional stability through collective defense and strategic partnership.
