Richawn McClain, a 26-year-old resident of Troy, New York, has entered a guilty plea to charges of possessing and intending to distribute fentanyl and cocaine. Additionally, he admitted to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman alongside Special Agent in Charge Frank A. Tarentino III from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division.
McClain is facing a mandatory prison sentence ranging from at least 10 years to life imprisonment. He also faces a supervised release term between 3 years and life, along with a potential fine up to $1 million. Sentencing will be determined by a judge who will consider the specific statute violated, U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other relevant factors.
According to his admission, on January 9, 2024, McClain possessed a handgun modified into a machinegun along with 32 grams of cocaine and over 900 fentanyl pills. The narcotics were found in the same bag as $22,770 in cash which McClain must forfeit as part of his plea agreement.
The case was investigated by the DEA and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner.
