Tyre Amahdikeem Brooks, John Matthew Railey, and Ricky Shane Underwood, all residents of Lancaster, have been sentenced to a total of 27 years in federal prison following their guilty pleas to drug trafficking charges. The case was overseen by United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis.
Evidence presented in court detailed the trio's conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Lancaster area starting in January 2020. Investigations led by the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office revealed multiple instances of illegal activity involving the three men.
In June 2020, narcotics investigators made two controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Brooks. He was arrested in July 2020 with an AR-15 style assault rifle, a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine, and methamphetamine. In 2022, he faced further charges for possessing firearms and unlawful narcotics in Rock Hill.
Railey was involved in a domestic incident in January 2021 where he was found with nearly an ounce of high-purity methamphetamine. He later sold methamphetamine to undercover investigators during a controlled buy in February 2021.
Underwood's involvement included a controlled purchase made by investigators from his home in February 2021. Subsequent searches uncovered more methamphetamine and firearms. In March 2023, another controlled purchase led to additional findings of drugs and weapons at his residence.
Brooks received a sentence of 108 months for possession with intent to distribute and distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine, followed by five years of supervised release. Railey was sentenced to 144 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges related to drug distribution. Underwood was sentenced to 72 months for similar charges involving over 50 grams of methamphetamine, along with four years of supervised release post-incarceration.
The investigation involved collaboration between the Department of Homeland Security, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, and Rock Hill Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher D. Taylor and William K. Witherspoon.
