U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery | U.S. Department of Justice
Vanessa Roberts Avery, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Dejavahn Watkin, 25, from Hartford, has pleaded guilty to a narcotics trafficking charge. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in New Haven.
Court documents and statements revealed that on October 1, 2024, the Drug Enforcement Administration's Hartford Task Force executed a search warrant at Watkin's apartment on Broad Street in Hartford. The search uncovered approximately 38 grams of loose fentanyl, around 1,800 wax folds of fentanyl, quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine, narcotics processing and packaging items, a loaded Glock .22 caliber handgun, and $18,362 in cash. Watkin was arrested during this operation. Investigators later found a loaded Stag Arms Stag-15 rifle which they determined Watkin had discarded from a window as authorities approached his apartment.
Watkin admitted guilt to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and a quantity of cocaine. This offense carries a mandatory minimum imprisonment term of five years and could extend up to 40 years. No sentencing date has been set yet.
Since his arrest, Watkin has remained detained.
The DEA’s Hartford Task Force is composed of personnel from various local police departments including those from Bristol, Hartford, East Hartford among others as well as the Connecticut State Police. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also contributed to the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Reed Durham is prosecuting the case.
