Michael Shaun Davis, a 57-year-old resident of Eufaula, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 77 months in prison for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The sentence was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges against Davis were the result of an investigation conducted by the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Davis had pleaded guilty on February 26, 2024, to one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. The authorities reported that on June 15, 2023, deputies from the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at Davis's residence and found a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, and ammunition. Despite being aware of his previous conviction for a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, Davis was found in possession of these items.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes. The Department strengthened its violent crime reduction strategy under PSN on May 26, 2021.
Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the sentencing hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Following his sentencing, Davis will remain in custody under the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
The prosecution team representing the United States included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Gross and Jonathan E. Soverly.
