FCC approves expanded use of 6 GHz band for internet devices

Some progress has been made in the United States' efforts to increase broadband spectrum for internet-connected devices. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously to expand the unlicensed use of the 6 GHz band of spectrum.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), which has supported broadband deployment for over thirty years, welcomed this decision. Stephanie Joyce, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff at CCIA, stated: "We applaud the FCC for delivering on a broadly shared goal of maximizing the use of broadband-ready wireless spectrum. Under Chair Rosenworcel’s leadership, the FCC has made significant strides in authorizing more uses of spectrum as the digital services industry keeps innovating to enhance the user experience."

This move is seen as a step forward in meeting the growing demand for internet-based goods, services, and communications.
