Clinton Greyling, the former President of a Florida-based investment firm, has been sentenced for his involvement in an unregistered broker scheme. Greyling, aged 50 and a resident of Tamarac, Florida, received a sentence of one year probation from U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns. He is also required to perform 200 hours of community service and forfeit $229,576.

In August 2024, Greyling admitted guilt to aiding and abetting an unregistered broker. The charges were initially brought against him on July 30, 2024.

Greyling led Trends Investments, Inc., a company that is no longer operational. This firm was involved in selling securities for emerging public companies engaged in mergers between February 2017 and June 2019. These securities were marketed as promising investments due to anticipated ventures into new sectors like therapeutic cannabinoids and blockchain technology.

To facilitate these sales, Trends Investments worked with a former registered broker who falsely presented himself as both a broker and wealth manager. Under Greyling's guidance, this individual was paid an undisclosed commission amounting to approximately 40 percent—exceeding $800,000 from over $1.9 million in sales—even though he was not registered with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission at the time.

Despite being promoted as lucrative opportunities by Greyling, the securities did not yield the expected returns. The shares were practically worthless since investors could not deposit or trade them promptly.

The announcement regarding Greyling's sentencing was made by United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy along with Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Boston Division. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James R. Drabick from the Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit.
