The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) has submitted comments to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) regarding the use of commercially available information (CAI) by federal agencies. The submission, dated December 16, focuses on the potential risks posed by data obtained from brokers to individual privacy, rights, and safety.

CDT is calling for OMB to take further measures to mitigate these risks. The organization suggests several actions including updating requirements for Privacy Impact Assessments and maintaining a comprehensive inventory of how agencies utilize CAI. Additionally, CDT recommends that agencies should be required to disclose proactively how CAI influences decisions about individuals. They also propose the creation of a centralized mechanism for reporting issues related to CAI.
