An Army National Guard soldier is facing murder charges following a shooting incident at a Fort Eisenhower residence. Natravien Landry, 25, from Abbeville, Louisiana, was charged with one count of murder as announced by Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Landry appeared in court on Monday for an initial hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian K. Epps, with a detention hearing set for Wednesday.
According to court documents and testimony, Landry is assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower. He allegedly visited a woman's residence in post housing early Saturday morning on December 14th; the woman shares a child with him. Landry is accused of assaulting and shooting a man present in the residence before leaving Fort Eisenhower. He was apprehended approximately three hours later south of Atlanta on Interstate 85 during a traffic stop conducted by the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, where deputies recovered a 9 mm pistol.
The U.S. Marshals Service subsequently took custody of Landry and transported him to Lincoln County Jail pending further court proceedings.
It is important to note that criminal complaints are merely charges; defendants remain presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation is being carried out by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. The case is being prosecuted by Southern District of Georgia Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry W. Syms Jr., Patricia G. Rhodes, and Kelsey L. Scanlon, along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Capt. Jacqueline M. Stryker.
