TechNet, a network of innovation economy leaders, has released findings from a recent survey conducted with Morning Consult. The study examined American attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on various sectors such as national security, healthcare, and everyday life.

Linda Moore, President and CEO of TechNet, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Morning Consult. She stated, “There’s a lot of speculation around Artificial Intelligence, and we wanted to dig deep with a broad survey to ensure we had fact-based, high-quality data on existing attitudes about AI. We believe these findings shed important light on how Americans see this technology and the opportunities for its use in the years ahead.”

The survey was carried out online between November 21-24, 2024, involving 4,005 American participants. It aimed to reflect a diverse demographic by considering factors like age, gender, race, educational attainment, and region. The margin of error is reported at plus or minus two percentage points.

Key results from the survey indicate that 77% of Americans view technology as beneficial for solving global issues. Additionally, 62% believe AI will enhance the United States' competitive edge internationally. A majority also sees AI as having potential benefits for national security.

The economic impact of AI is perceived positively by respondents at nearly a 2-to-1 ratio (52% positive versus 27% negative). Similarly, many believe AI could personally benefit them (55% agree versus 26% disagree).

In healthcare and scientific fields, 72% think AI will accelerate discoveries leading to quicker patient interventions. Practical applications were also highlighted; for instance, using AI for tasks like writing wedding toasts or meal planning received favorable responses from more than half of those surveyed.
