A federal grand jury has indicted Daniel Chartraw, 51, formerly of South Lake Tahoe, on 12 counts of wire fraud related to a cryptocurrency trading scam. United States Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced the indictment, which was unsealed following Chartraw's arrest.

Court documents reveal that Chartraw allegedly defrauded several victims through a cryptocurrency investment scheme. He claimed his companies, Crypto-Pal LLC and TDA Global, were developing a proprietary algorithm promising exceptional returns on investments. Instead of investing the money as promised, Chartraw reportedly used it for personal expenses and travel.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations conducted the investigation leading to this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Delaney is handling the prosecution.

If convicted, Chartraw could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The court will determine any sentence after considering statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that these charges are allegations, and Chartraw is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
