In the early hours of Christmas, Russia conducted missile and drone attacks targeting Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The intention behind these actions was to disrupt access to heat and electricity for Ukrainians during winter and threaten the safety of their power grid.
President Joe Biden addressed the situation, stating, "Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety, and the United States and the international community must continue to stand with Ukraine until it triumphs over Russia’s aggression."
The President highlighted recent U.S. support for Ukraine, noting that "the United States has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles, and more are on the way." He further mentioned directing the Department of Defense to maintain a steady supply of weapons deliveries to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russian forces.
Biden emphasized that efforts will persist as "the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces."
