U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman | U.S. Department of Justice
Drew Caswell, a 26-year-old resident of Cairo, New York, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for crimes involving child pornography. The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman, alongside Craig L. Tremaroli from the FBI's Albany Field Office and NYSP Superintendent Steven G. James.
Caswell had previously pleaded guilty to charges related to downloading and distributing child pornography using a file-hosting service. He admitted to sharing multiple images and videos publicly on social media. On August 7, 2023, he was found in possession of nearly 300 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of toddlers and infants on his cell phone.
United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci also imposed a 20-year term of supervised release following Caswell's incarceration. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon release.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members from various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies such as Troop F of the New York State Police and its Computer Crimes Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa prosecuted the case under Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood is an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child exploitation online through collaboration among federal, state, and local resources.
