A federal grand jury in Alaska has indicted an Anchorage man, Sean Javier, for a series of bank robberies. According to court documents, Javier, 36, allegedly used force and intimidation to steal approximately $3,162 from three local credit union branches over several weeks. The incidents occurred on September 23, October 7, and October 16.
The indictment also claims that on October 20, Javier was found in possession of two firearms. Previously convicted of stalking in the first degree in June 2013 and bank robbery in June 2020, he was considered a felon at the time of his arrest.
Javier was taken into custody on October 20 for violating probation related to his previous conviction. He faces charges including three counts of credit union robbery and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison. His initial court appearance will be scheduled before a U.S. Magistrate Judge.
U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker and Special Agent Rebecca Day from the FBI's Anchorage Field Office announced the indictment. The FBI is leading the investigation with support from the Anchorage Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth Brickey is handling the prosecution.
Authorities remind that an indictment is only an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
