A federal judge has sentenced Earrious Moore to fourteen and a half years in prison for carjacking multiple vehicles at gunpoint in Chicago. The crimes took place on a single afternoon in April 2018, during which Moore stole three cars, attempted to steal two others, and shot two people.
In one incident, a victim sitting in a Mercedes-Benz on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive was shot in the back of the shoulder and later treated at a hospital. Moore fled the scene but was apprehended by Chicago Police officers in the lobby of a nearby building.
Moore, 30, from Chicago, pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of carjacking, attempted carjacking, and firearm offenses. U.S. District Judge Elaine E. Bucklo handed down the sentence during a hearing held in federal court in Chicago.
The announcement of the sentencing was made by Morris Pasqual, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Christopher Amon, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; and Larry Snelling, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alejandro G. Ortega stated in the government's sentencing memorandum: “The violence and terror the defendant wrought on the victims of his carjacking spree will likely never be forgotten by his victims and those who witnessed these appalling events.”
