Today, Shirley L. Osgood, a 76-year-old resident of Grass Valley, was sentenced to five days in jail following her conviction for unauthorized entry onto a military installation. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn K. Delaney after a one-day bench trial. In addition to the jail time, Osgood received 100 hours of community service and a one-year term of probation, as announced by U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Osgood was arrested twice for trespassing at Beale Air Force Base—first on October 19, 2023, and again on March 14, 2024. On both occasions, she was informed that she was trespassing but disregarded law enforcement's instructions to leave the premises. During her testimony, Osgood admitted awareness of her unauthorized presence on the base and stated that her actions were part of a protest aimed at speaking with the base commander.

Osgood has a history of similar offenses; she was previously convicted in federal court for trespassing at Beale Air Force Base in 2013 and subsequently barred from entering the facility.

The case resulted from an investigation conducted by the U.S. Air Force Security Forces and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lee.
