A federal grand jury has indicted Quentin Nelson, 32, from Corcoran, on charges of receiving and possessing child sex abuse material. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

Court documents indicate that Nelson allegedly received and attempted to receive child pornography on December 25, 2020. He is also accused of possessing numerous images and videos of prepubescent child sexual abuse materials stored on a phone and an SD card.

The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in collaboration with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin F. Scott is handling the prosecution.

If found guilty, Nelson could face up to 20 years in prison for each count along with a $250,000 fine per count. Sentencing will be determined by the court after considering statutory factors and guidelines that account for various variables. It is important to note that these are allegations at this stage; Nelson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders who exploit children sexually while identifying and rescuing victims.
