Eastern District employees receive EOUSA Director's Award

Seven Assistant United States Attorneys, a Public Affairs Officer, a Victim Witness Specialist, and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney from the Eastern District of New York have been honored with the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA) Director's Awards. This recognition highlights their exceptional contributions to justice and law enforcement.

Breon Peace, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, expressed his admiration for the awardees: “I am filled with pride and admiration for the honorees whose outstanding work has furthered the mission of our Office and the Department of Justice through aggressive, fair, and compassionate enforcement of the law, and dedication to crime prevention and reentry initiatives.”

Stephanie Hinds, EOUSA Director, also commended the recipients: “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all the award recipients. This recognition is a testament to your hard work, tireless dedication, and unwavering commitment for advancing the Department of Justice’s mission.”

David Cooper and Dara Olds were recognized for their "Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney – Civil Division" in defending government interests in Campos et al. v. Kijikazi. The case focused on how the Social Security Administration managed benefits during the global pandemic.

A team including Michael Castiglione, Richard Hayes, Edward Newman, Bonni Perlin along with former AUSA Melanie Speight received accolades under "Superior Performance by a Litigative Team" for achieving a $1.435 billion settlement in U.S. v. UBS Securities LLC et al., addressing misrepresentations by UBS in mortgage-backed securities sales.

The Reentry Team led by Nomi Berenson alongside Danielle Blustein Hass and Gladian Rivera was acknowledged for "Superior Performance in Prevention and Reentry Activities." Their efforts included launching the Eastern District’s Reentry Initiative aimed at aiding formerly incarcerated individuals through resources like RAISE court sessions presided over by Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall.
